Thread colors are approximate screen matches to DMC numbers. Check against real thread before you buy. Amazon links open a search for that DMC number in a new tab. Floss Field is not affiliated with DMC or Amazon.
The alphabets
Five alphabets: Block, Serif, Bold, Narrow and Typewriter. In Block every letter takes the same width. In the other four a letter takes the width it needs, and the gaps between letters, words and lines are fixed for each alphabet. Here is the one chosen in the form above, with every character it has.
Block
Capitals 7 squares high on a grid five squares wide, with small letters. Every letter takes the same width, so words are easy to count and to center. It has capitals and small letters.
How it works
- Type your words. Each line you type becomes a row of letters, and the chart grows or shrinks to fit them with three blank squares all round.
- Choose the lettering, the letter size, how the lines sit, the thread and the fabric count. The size in stitches and in inches follows what you choose.
- Download the PDF to print and stitch from, or open the chart in the pattern maker to add a border or a motif around the words.
Thread colors on screen are approximate.
