Terms of use

Floss Field (flossfield.com) is run by Click Clack Labs LLC (“we”, “us”) and offers free patterns for cross stitch, hand embroidery, needlepoint and crochet, and free tools for making them. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. You must be at least 13 to use the site, and if you are under 18 you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission.

What you may do with the patterns
The charts, PDFs, previews, text and tools on this site belong to Click Clack Labs LLC and are protected by copyright. We give you a free, personal, non-exclusive licence to view, download and print the charts and to stitch them for yourself, for gifts and for charity, and sell pieces you have stitched by hand yourself, in small quantities, as long as you do not suggest that Floss Field made or endorses them. You may also make extra printed copies for your own stitching.
You may not:
- sell, rent, share for download, re-upload or otherwise redistribute our charts, PDFs or previews, in whole or in part, whether free or paid, alone or in a kit or bundle;
- remove the Floss Field name or address from a chart or PDF;
- present our pictures of patterns as your own work;
- copy the catalog in bulk, by hand or by program, or use the site’s content to build another pattern library or to train or test machine-learning systems;
- use the Floss Field name or look in a way that suggests we are connected with you.
Sharing a link to a pattern page is always welcome. A stitching group or a teacher may point members to the page so that each person downloads their own copy.
Letters made from open typefaces are an exception. Where a charted alphabet or a set of letter outlines on this site was made from an open typeface, the letters themselves are offered under that typeface’s own licence, not under the licence above. The typeface credits page names each one and prints the licences, and for those letters it applies wherever it allows more than these terms do. Everything else in a pattern stays under these terms.
The patterns and their limits
Thread colors on a screen are approximate, DMC numbers are given as a reference, and sizes and fabric amounts from the calculators are estimates: check them against your own fabric and leave a margin before you cut or buy. If you find a mistake in a chart, please tell us.
What you make and upload
Charts you draw, convert from your own pictures or customize are yours. When you save one, you allow us to store it so it can be shown back to you; when you choose to publish a colorway, you allow us to display it publicly on the site until you unpublish or delete it. Only convert or save pictures you have the right to use: not artwork, characters, logos or photographs that belong to someone else. We may remove anything that appears to break these terms or the law.
Using the site fairly
Please do not break the law with the site, try to get around its limits, interfere with how it runs, probe it for weaknesses without our permission, send automated requests in bulk, or submit anything false, abusive or infringing. Saved charts are tied to a browser cookie, not an account: we cannot recover a collection after its cookie is cleared, and we may remove saved data that has been out of use for a long time.
Names and trademarks
DMC is a trademark of its owner; thread numbers are used only so you can find the matching floss. Amazon is a trademark of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Floss Field is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by DMC, Amazon or any other company named on the site.
Copyright complaints
We respect other people’s rights and do not knowingly publish anyone else’s designs or licensed characters. If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, use the private request form, or write to Click Clack Labs LLC, 418 Broadway, Ste R, Albany, NY 12207 with: your name and contact details; the work you say is infringed; the exact page address of the material; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; a statement that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your signature, which may be typed. We will look at it promptly, remove material where the complaint is sound, and stop serving people who infringe repeatedly.
Links, advertising and affiliate links
The site links to other websites, such as Amazon searches for a thread number. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they sell, say or do. Today those links are plain links and we earn nothing from them. The site may show advertising in the future, and some links may become affiliate links that pay us a commission at no cost to you; when that happens they will be disclosed where they appear and in the privacy policy.
No warranty
The site, the patterns and the tools are free and are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that a chart is free of errors, that a color will match your thread, that a calculation suits your project, or that the site or anything you saved on it will always be available.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Click Clack Labs LLC and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost materials, time, data or profits, arising from your use of the site, its patterns or its tools. Our total liability for any claim connected with the site is limited to fifty US dollars (US $50). Some places do not allow some of these limits; where that is so, they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
If your use causes a claim
If someone brings a claim against us because you broke these terms or the law, or because of something you uploaded or published here, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from that claim, as far as the law allows.
Changes and ending
We may change, pause or remove any pattern, tool or part of the site at any time. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. We may block access for anyone who breaks these terms. The sections on ownership, warranty, liability and claims continue to apply after you stop using the site.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and we agree to those courts, except where the law of your home country gives you the right to use your local courts.
General
These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term on one occasion, we can still enforce it later.
