Ferns needlepoint patterns

One fern frond, upright: a central stalk with leaflets in pairs all the way up, shrinking toward the tip.

The folk art one has two curled young fronds at its foot. It is drawn in more than one style. All are four inches square on 18 mesh, and most can be made round. At least one takes few colors; count the stalk first and add the leaflets pair by pair.
