Most show a red-tailed hawk perched upright in profile on a post or a thick branch, in one of them a pair face to face.
It is a broad-shouldered bird with a flat head, a short, sharply hooked beak and a fierce brow over the eye, drawn in several styles. All are four inches square on 18 mesh, and many can be made round. The streaks across the belly are counted one by one, so keep your place; many are marked intermediate.
