Heron and crane needlepoint patterns

Herons and cranes: a great egret, or a pair of them, standing in profile, and a red-crowned crane standing on one leg or stepping.

The egret is a slender bird with a long neck, and the red-crowned crane is the crane of East Asian painting. Both are drawn in several styles. All are four inches square on 18 mesh, and most are marked beginner. Legs and bills are thin lines, so count them first; a pale bird wants a ground with color in it.
