Two-armed saguaro in a pot: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 16 KB

A saguaro stands in a patterned pot, its left half a mirror of its right: a tall trunk with a round top and two arms that leave it above the pot and turn up beside it. The trunk outline and the outlines of the arms are dark green stem stitch, and the ribs of the trunk and the ribs of the arms are light green stem stitch. A pink satin stitch flower with a gold satin stitch center sits on the top of the trunk and a smaller one on each arm. The pot outline is rust stem stitch, its rim and saucer rust satin stitch, and its band holds a gold stem stitch zigzag with three gold French knots.

Size and details

Easy. In a hoop of 6 inches or less: stem stitch and French knots, with some short satin stitches; in a larger hoop the widest satin stitches are long.

  • In a 3 or 4 inch hoop the French knots are drawn smaller than about 2 mm (a little over 1/16 in). Use one strand of floss for them there, or choose a larger hoop.

The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
