Stars and stripes shield in laurel: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 12 KB

A shield of stars and stripes stands inside a laurel wreath that is open at the top. The band across the top of the shield, its chief, is navy and carries three white stars in a row; below it run seven upright stripes, four red and three white. Two laurel branches spring from a navy star under the point of the shield and rise round it, each with thirteen pairs of leaves that grow smaller to a single leaf at the tip; each leaf is half dark green and half light green. The top band is long and short stitch, the laurel stems are stem stitch, and the stars, the stripes and the leaves are satin stitch.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
