Jacobean hand embroidery patterns

Flowers, a pomegranate and a cardinal in the Jacobean manner: large shapes are divided into parts, and each part has a filling of its own.

There are a carnation seen from the side, a daisy of eight petals, a tulip with three petals, a pomegranate with a crown, a flower with four petals, a flower with six, a rose with five, a flower on a straight stem whose pointed middle is filled with a trellis, and a cardinal on a scrolling stem. The fillings are long and short stitch, satin stitch, trellis stitch with a French knot in each diamond, and fishbone stitch in some of the leaves, inside stem stitch outlines; each petal of the rose has a turned-over edge of buttonhole stitch, and the trellis of the flower on a straight stem is laid thread held down by couching.
