A tulip with three petals is shown in the Jacobean manner. The middle petal has a navy stem stitch outline round a gold trellis in trellis stitch, with a navy French knot in each whole diamond, above a navy foot of long and short stitch with a stem stitch outline. The two outer petals cup round it in dark blue long and short stitch, each with a light blue turned edge of satin stitch and a navy stem stitch outline. The foot of the flower is gold satin stitch, on a dark green satin stitch stem that ends in a tie. Two long leaves rise from the tie in fishbone stitch, half dark green and half light green, with dark green stem stitch outlines.

- In a 3 or 4 inch hoop the French knots are drawn smaller than about 2 mm (a little over 1/16 in). Use one strand of floss for them there, or choose a larger hoop.
The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.
