A soup tureen is seen from the front. The tureen, a round bowl that narrows to its foot under a domed lid, is outlined in navy stem stitch, with two navy lines across the bowl. Between the lines lies a pink daisy with eight petals and a gold center, and a green spray stalk with five leaves curves away from it at each side. Three green leaves fan out on the lid under the knob. The handles, the rim, the foot, the knob of the lid, its neck and its collar are gold satin stitch; the daisy petals and the daisy center are satin stitch too. The leaves are fishbone stitch and the spray stalks stem stitch.
Size and details
Easy. In a hoop of 6 inches or less: stem stitch and fishbone stitch, with some short satin stitches; in a larger hoop the widest satin stitches are long.
4 colors of floss and 3 kinds of stitch:
| Hoop | Inches | Centimeters | Satin stitch up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 in (8 cm) | 1.8 × 1.4 in | 4.6 × 3.6 cm | 1/8 in (3 mm) |
| 4 in (10 cm) | 2.6 × 2 in | 6.6 × 5.1 cm | 3/16 in (5 mm) |
| 5 in (13 cm) | 3.5 × 2.7 in | 8.9 × 6.9 cm | 1/4 in (6 mm) |
| 6 in (15 cm) | 4.4 × 3.4 in | 11.2 × 8.6 cm | 5/16 in (8 mm) |
| 8 in (20 cm) | 6.2 × 4.7 in | 15.7 × 11.9 cm | 1/2 in (13 mm) |
- In an 8 inch hoop the widest satin stitch shape is 1/2 in (13 mm) across. Satin stitches longer than about 12 mm (just under 1/2 in) tend to work loose: divide the shape into sections, or work it in long and short stitch.
The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.
