Lattice pie in an autumn laurel: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 17 KB

A whole pie is seen from straight above inside a laurel of autumn leaves. The pie has a tan crimped crust with a rolled edge round a rust filling, crossed by six gold lattice strips, three upright and three level, woven over and under one another. A brown branch rises at each side from a rust bow at the foot, with laurel leaves in pairs, gold, rust and orange by turns. The branches are stem stitch, the laurel leaves are fishbone stitch and the knot of the bow is padded satin stitch; the crimped crust, its rolled edge, the filling, the lattice strips, the bow and the tails of the bow are satin stitch.

Size and details

Intermediate. Satin stitch over about a sixth of the cloth in a 6 inch hoop and a great deal of stitching.

To frame the piece in its hoop, cut a square 3 inches (8 cm) wider than the hoop: a 9 inch (23 cm) square for a 6 inch hoop.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
