Butterflies with open wings, among them a butterfly and a monarch seen from above, and one scene of a butterfly on a flower with a caterpillar below.
The butterfly is in bright colors in most styles and the monarch in its own markings; the two halves of each mirror or nearly mirror, and both come in several styles. A mirrored design is forgiving to count: work one wing, then repeat it in reverse, checking the chart where the two wings differ. In the classic butterfly and caterpillar, an orange and black butterfly rests on a pink flower, while a caterpillar striped in yellow, white and black lifts its head from a green leaf, with two white clouds on very pale blue; the butterfly's wings are tilted and do not mirror, so count each from the chart. All are four inches square on 18 mesh, and many can be made as a round ornament.
