Rolling pin and whisk with herbs: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 12 KB

A whisk and a rolling pin make a cross, tied with a bow where they meet. The whisk stands upright, three gray whisk wires looping up from a gray collar on a tan whisk handle, and the tan rolling pin lies level across the whisk handle with a red handle at each end. The red bow has two loops, a bow knot and two bow tails that hang down. A sprig of herbs grows in each corner of the cross, each leaf in two halves, one dark green and one light green. The stems of the herbs and the whisk wires are stem stitch, the bow knot is padded satin stitch, and all the other parts are satin stitch.

  • In an 8 inch hoop the widest satin stitch shape is 9/16 in (14 mm) across. Satin stitches longer than about 12 mm (just under 1/2 in) tend to work loose: divide the shape into sections, or work it in long and short stitch.

The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
