An open umbrella in the rain is bluework: line stitches in one navy thread. The cap of the umbrella is a small circle at the top, and from it four ribs run down the umbrella to the hem of the umbrella, which curves up between the rib ends. The border of the umbrella follows the hem just inside it. The shaft drops straight from the middle of the hem to the round knob of the handle. Seven drops of rain hang in an arc over the umbrella, the highest above the cap. The umbrella, its cap, its hem, the shaft, the knob and the drops are stem stitch; the ribs and the border are back stitch.
