Carpenter’s star block: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 11 KB

Here the carpenter’s star, also called the carpenter’s wheel, has no stitched seams: a star of eight diamonds meets under a gold woven wheel in the middle, with a square of bare cloth in each notch and three diamonds fanned on each of its tips, thirty-two diamonds in all, with a hairline of bare cloth between them. Every diamond is filled with satin stitch, in three blues from navy at the middle to sky blue at the tips. The eight squares are left open. Round the whole runs a wreath: a ring of stem stitch with four coral woven wheel roses on it, at the top, the foot and the two sides, and from rose to rose seven pairs of broad fishbone stitch leaves, the outer leaves in one green and the inner in another.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
