May birth flower, lily of the valley: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 20 KB

The name MAY stands in block capitals between two sprays of leaves, one arching over it and one cupping it from below, each with a sprig of lily of the valley, a birth flower of May, at its middle. Each lily of the valley has two satin stitch leaves that rise in a V from a small satin stitch sheath at their foot, their tips toward the ends of the branches, and between them one stem stitch stalk that parts in two arching arms, each hung with two scalloped bells in satin stitch; the letters are satin stitch across each stroke, and the leaves are satin stitch on stem stitch branches.

Size and details

Easy. In a hoop of 6 inches or less: short satin stitches, no shading; in a larger hoop the widest satin stitches are long.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
