The name JULY stands in block capitals between two sprays of leaves, one arching over it and one cupping it from below, each with a water lily, a birth flower of July, at its middle. Each water lily is two rounds of eight pointed petals, the outer in long and short stitch and the inner in satin stitch, round a satin stitch center with a French knot, and it sits on a round leaf worked in long and short stitch, its upper petals reaching past the rim and the notch of the leaf opening at the foot; the letters are satin stitch across each stroke, and the leaves are satin stitch on stem stitch branches.

- In a 3 inch hoop the French knots are drawn smaller than about 2 mm (a little over 1/16 in). Use one strand of floss for them there, or choose a larger hoop.
The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.
