Forget-me-not vine edging: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 10 KB

Two stems twist together along a straight band. They cross behind four forget-me-nots set in a row and part between them into three open ovals. A pair of leaves spreads from the middle of each oval’s upper bend and another pair from its lower bend, and the stems end behind the flower at each end. The stems are dark green stem stitch. Each flower is five blue satin stitch petals round a gold French knot, and each leaf is satin stitch in two halves, one dark green and one light green. The band is the same on both sides of its middle, so it can be repeated end to end along a hem.

Size and details

Easy. Stem stitch and French knots, with some short satin stitches.

  • In a 3 inch hoop the French knots are drawn smaller than about 2 mm (a little over 1/16 in). Use one strand of floss for them there, or choose a larger hoop.

The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
