Mantel clock with scrolls: preview of the stitched design

Download free PDFPDF, US Letter · 10 KB

A mantel clock is seen from the front, with a round drum on a long base and a scroll at each side. The drum is a brown ring, and inside it the gold rim of the face circles twelve navy hour marks. The short hour hand points up to the left and the longer minute hand up to the right, both navy, from the gold hub of the hands. Each brown scroll sweeps down from the drum and curls in on itself to end at a gold boss. The base is two brown bars, the lower one wider with a short foot under each end. Every part is satin stitch.

  • In an 8 inch hoop the widest satin stitch shape is 9/16 in (14 mm) across. Satin stitches longer than about 12 mm (just under 1/2 in) tend to work loose: divide the shape into sections, or work it in long and short stitch.

The pattern is drawn inside a circle about half an inch (1.3 cm) smaller all around than the hoop.

Getting it onto your fabric

The PDF holds the pattern twice at actual size: once as drawn, and once mirrored for an iron-on transfer pen. Print it at 100% with scaling off and check the one-inch square (25.4 mm) with a ruler before you trace. How to transfer a pattern explains tracing, carbon paper and the other ways.
