About this pattern

A two-tier birthday cake with three lit candles, left as bare fabric inside a solid red panel, in the manner of Assisi work. A black line one stitch wide runs round the cake, the candles and the flames and closes the panel on all four sides. A line of icing hangs across each tier, in three scallops on the upper tier and four on the lower. The left side mirrors the right exactly. Stitch it on white or ivory fabric: the cake is the cloth. Full crosses only. It is 42 by 41 stitches and uses two thread colors.

42 stitches wide by 41 high: 1,146 full cross stitches in 2 DMC colors (Red 321, Black 310).
